The castle was built between 1659 and 1661 to protect against Turkish and Tatar incursions, bringing together six villages. The irregular rectangular fortification stood in the southwest corner of the mountaintop. Some of the corner bastions with square floor plans were covered with tent roofs, others with half saddle roofs. The inner castle, which is the centre of the fort, was also protected by an external fortification with a gate bastion and a relatively large pentagonal tower. Ditches surrounded the fortification on the places where it was easily accessible. The castle was probably never besieged, but we know that in 1690, the people of the area fled the Tartar troops helping Imre Thököli. After 1720, the castle's then-owner – the Ugron family – demolished the fort and built the manor house in Obrănești from its stones. The remaining demolished material was also used to construct the homes in Bădeni. Today, the castle's ruins are not visible; only the line of its former foundation walls can be seen.
