Boncza Castle in Ciucea - The memorial of two famous poets Ady Endre and Octavian Goga

Miklós Boncza, a member of the Hungarian Parliament, the poet Endre Ady’s father-in-law, built the castle for his wife at the end of the 19th century. The architect of the building was Ignác Alpár, who also designed the replica Corvin Castle castle in Budapest and the premises of the Hungarian National Bank. Endre Ady, the husband of Berta Boncza, spent the last period of his life in the castle, more precisely in one of its outbuildings. The new court is no longer reminiscent of the ground floored formal palace with corner bastions. After the First World War, Berta Boncza, now the wife of the famous painter Ödön Márffy sold the property to Octavian Goga, a Romanian politician and writer. Goga remodelled it to his taste as a two-floored building in a neo-Byzantine style. In 1966, Goga’s widow Veturia donated the property to the Romanian state. It was then that the Octavian Goga Memorial Museum was founded here, which showcases mainly Goga's work. Besides this, it contains many materials about Ady Endre, the poet.
