Purgly Castle in Şofronea – The castle with its still original interior
The Purgly Castle in Şofronea was built in 1789. When the nobleman János Purgly bought that building, the castle obtained its current state. After the nationalization of the castle, it became the local collectives economic office and housed the cultural festivity hall of the village. Today it is used by the Humanitas Gura Popii Foundation. There are also plans to build a conference centre in the building. It has been restored to retain its original look. Its façade is richly enhanced, and the towers are charming their guests with their medieval style. The interior has also retained its original aspect. The great hall has a coffered ceiling, the stairs are decorated with carved ornaments, and the building is decorated with stained glass windows. In the garden of the castle, there is currently a thermal bath.
